The Needing Spot
By Natalie

Sometimes we think we couldn’t possibly be good parents because we make mistakes. Or because so much of the time, it’s just so hard.
Sometimes I yell. I feel like I’m losing my mind-and my temper.
I have no idea what to do for Sam.
I never say the right thing.
Family night blew up.
I’m not cut out for this. My house is a wreck.
We fight. The kids fight. Quarantine has been one big ginormous fight.
I’m not sure where or how I fit as my kids become adults.
Clark won’t eat anything besides macaroni and Gushers.
I try every day. And I mess up. Every day.
From the mouths of moms, these are things I have heard-and quite recently at that.
You’ve heard them too.
Your girlfriends have said these things and you’ve jumped right in with something like this, “Did you see how you handled that name-calling episode? Top notch. Or how you calmed that scraped up toddler or angsty teenager with your touch and that big mama heart of yours? Well, I saw it. I see you. Take note, sister. You are remarkable.”

I Dare You
DARE: TO CHALLENGE SOMEONE TO DO SOMETHING REQUIRING BOLDNESS. Several years ago a friend told me that every January she dared her family to do something that year that they were afraid of or that would be very difficult. We’re not talking dangerous stuff, but having the courage to step out of your comfort zone…

Healthy Resolutions for 2014
I love a new year. I love the unwritten permission it gives everyone to do a little better and try a little harder. I love writing goals (thanks to years of family home evenings doing so) and I love tracking my progress. What I don’t love? The pressure that comes from attempting an overwhelming task…

Mama’s Cheese Ball
A few things I love about this cheese ball. 1. It is embarrassingly easy. 2. It’s always part of our New Year’s Eve party appetizer potluck. (Seriously, my favorite party of the year! If you’ve got kids-of any age-you’ve got to check it out for some fun ideas.)

10 Things You Need for a Family-Style New Year’s Eve
I know you are just recovering from Christmas, but it’s time to plan your fun family New Year’s Bash! This is my son-in-laws favorite party! Here are the 10 things you need to ring in the New Year: 1. Comfy shoes and casual clothes. Leave your high-heels and sequined sweater in the closet! Be sure…

DIY: Nativity Costumes
We have been dressing up Nativity-style for years. Wearing bathrobes and sheets was just standard operating procedure here. And the angel always wore a slip on her head. This year while we were dressing up the grand kids, mom had a flash of brilliance. Wait. There’s one thing you should know about this little lady…

Making Santa Magic: Santa Footprints & Reindeer Food
My secret is out. You might have guessed from Trisha’s storybook countdown post-correctly so-that I was the sister who believed (whole-heartedly, Polar Express style) in Santa for well over a decade. It’s true. I defended the jolly old man for years. A big part of that was The Story of Santa Claus book (written by…

Primary 2014 CD Cover {FREE PRINTABLE}
I’m a Primary rookie. I spent the first couple of my married years in the Young Women’s organization in a small ward in Salt Lake City. (Small? In Salt Lake City? Yes.) How small? Well, let’s just say that we had 2 or 3 young women total on any given Sunday or Wednesday night….

The Jesus Gift
“Maybe Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store. Maybe Christmas perhaps, means a little bit more.” I love those famous Grinch words – Christmas IS so much more!
