It’s that time of year when the NCAA goes dancing. (Or something like that.)
I grew up watching basketball, and while I don’t know a single stat on a single soul who’s playing, I enjoy watching a good game. And any good game calls for some good food.
So you’re spending more time cheering on your team than you are in the kitchen, we’ve put together three of the easiest (and yummiest!) puff pastry recipes you’ll find anywhere.
So here’s how it goes…
You’ll need 2 boxes of puff pastry. (Put it in the freezer if you aren’t going to use it right away.) Work with puff pastry when it is barely thawed. Don’t handle it a lot and be sure to use a sharp knife. Bake on parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
For the egg wash, mix together 1 egg and 1 Tbsp. of water. Use the egg wash to seal the edges of the pastry where you pinch it together.
Savory Puffs: Caramelize thinly sliced onions in a little olive oil and butter. Add precooked bacon cut in small pieces. Put on half of a 2-3″ rectangle or triangle of puffed pastry. Fold over and seal with egg wash. Bake at 400 for 15 minutes or until golden.
Pizza Puffs: 1 pkg. of mini Pepperoni, mozzarella cheese, and pizza sauce.
Roll pastry up like you would for cinnamon rolls. Cut roll into 1/2 inch slices then bake at 400 for 15 minutes.
Sweet Puffs: Cream Cheese and Dark Chocolate!
Put 1 dove chocolate square on puffed pastry with a spoonful of cream cheese mixture on top (4 oz. softened cream cheese, 1 Tbsp. powdered sugar, 1/2 tsp. vanilla) Brush egg wash along the edges and fold corners into the center and pinch together. Bake at 400 for 15 minutes.
Happy March Madness!
