For many people turning 40 is a big deal! Some people welcome it, while others would rather ignore it. My husband is the latter type, so rather than organizing a big surprise extravaganza for his 40th, we took a quieter (but still fun) route to celebrate his milestone birthday.
Here’s what I did:
1. I gathered a list of names, addresses, and emails of new friends, old friends, graduate school friends, business colleagues and family.
2. I printed the following poem on cardstock and mailed them 2 weeks before his birthday. (Or you can email a copy)
(Name of Birthday Person) TURNS 40 ON (Date of birthday)!
Our dad is turning 40 soon; it’s really kind of sad,
His hair is gray- his teeth are gone- his hearing is so bad!
We hoped to cheer him up a bit and have some birthday fun!
Could you send a card, an e-mail, or call him, either one?
This info is TOP SECRET! Don’t tell him how you knew.
His day will be remembered with greetings from all of you!
(I signed my kids’ names at the bottom. Then I included information for his office phone, cell phone, his email, and our home address.)
Well, as it turned out it was a really fun day for him. We have moved around a lot and it is difficult to stay in touch with everyone. But LOTS of birthday wishes came his way; one friend even called him from the Rose Bowl!
So grab your hubby a little birthday spotlight! And there’s no party mess to clean up after!
