There are lots of themes and ideas to get out of Frozen. But what we found most profound was the love, the relationships, and the change of heart. With that in mind, each day of camp will be focused on a relationship the girls can learn more about. We’ll give you ideas for scriptures, devotionals and activities, recognizing that it is best to pray with your girls in mind as you plan what your girls camp will entail.
Don’t forget to check out the intro post with ideas for your camp kick-off or Day #1 or Day #3!
I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again-just so no one misunderstands what we’re sharing here. Girls Camp is “a unique experience where [young women] can strengthen testimonies, feel the Spirit, make friendships, serve, and develop leadership and other skills” (lds.org page about Girls Camp). We’re sharing pieces, suggestions, and ideas about how to do certain aspects of that.

Day 2 – Family
{SPOILER ALERT!} Frozen’s big moment comes when sisters Anna and Elsa-each with acts of real love-save each other. I’m not going to lie, when Anna froze and Elsa began to weep, I was right there with her.
It probably has something to do with the tender spot in my heart for sisters. I have two of the best you could ask for. Really.
My mom always told us while we were growing up that we would be each others’ longest and dearest friends. And while there were plenty of years in the middle when I didn’t believe her, I’ve gotta tell you. I do now.
So with a day focused on family, we invite you, like we have from the beginning to think and pray about what your girls need. Family is a HUGE topic-and there are so many incredible resources on LDS.org. Here are just a few of the things we found:
Devotional:
- The Family: A Proclamation to the World: There’s no better resource on the doctrine of the family. It could be a fun challenge as a 10-hour project (I know it would take me at least that long!) to memorize it.
- Eternal Marriage: The quote for the day, found above, comes from this excellent talk from Elder F. Burton Howard. A great read!
- Shining Forth in the Family Video:Youth from around the world share ideas about the simple and meaningful ways they can bless their families. If you haven’t seen this-watch it!
- What About Mom and Dad?: This article lists questions and answers of youth from all over-questions like, “What is something you have learned from your parents?” and “How has the gospel strengthened your family?” It could be really neat to make a questionnaire out of these questions and give your girls some time to write their own answers. I LOVE how the new youth curriculum really invites them to get involved-and writing is one way to create that involvement. It could lead to a great group discussion afterwards. You could also have them write thank-you notes to their parents.
- LOL: Love Out Loud: A fun list of ways to show love to family members. This list could be a great place to start in challenging the girls to complete Personal Progress Divine Nature #3. They could even plan out tentatively what they hope to do for different family members for the two weeks specified in the Value Experience.
- I Have a Testimony of the Family: This is a powerful article by Ann Dibb that outlines how youth can gain and strengthen their testimonies of the family.
- For the Strength of Youth Family Section
Activity:Family-Friendly Family Feud
This is a quick way to get lots of girls involved and to remind them that wholesome family fun is an important part of family togetherness. Depending on how many people you have at your camp, you’ll want to consider splitting up into groups and have something else going on (like the service project!) for the group who isn’t playing.
You can find the rules and the list of ready-to-print questions and answers here.
Service:
We love the idea of doing a planned service project at Girls Camp, and have come up with one idea that fits with the Frozen theme: fleece blankets!
Agencies and organization from homeless shelters to hospitals and so many more love to have these on hand to give away as the need arises. And we found this really unique way to prep the blankets that’s a bit prettier and lot more fun than simply tying the ends.
You can find full instructions for how to do this here. Cool, right? We just suggest that because fleece is a bit pricey, you start looking for sales and/or inviting ward members to donate fleece to the service project a few months in advance.
Hope you enjoyed Day #2! Be sure to stay tuned for Day #3…

I am loving all of the ideas you are giving here! I have so needed the inspiration. I was wondering if you would share the blue quotes for us to print off as decorating posters to introduce each day. Thanks so much for all of your hard work!

Hi Heather! Thanks for stopping by. So glad you’re enjoying the posts! We were actually wondering if we needed to make those available as printables. Thanks for the suggestion! We’ll get working on it.

I don’t know what format you are using with these, but if you could leave them so we could edit to fit our specifics that would be even better. Especially for the kick of invite. Thanks for your time!

Hi Heather! I’m not aware of any kind of program I could use to share them and make them edit-able. Do you know of anything? I’d love to check it out!
Heather says
Do you create them in Word or Photoshop? IE. If you did it in Photoshop, you would just want to send the PSD file with the layers rather than the JPG. Sorry I don’t know how you would share on your Blog (not familiar with wordpress yet) rather than give a link to a Skydrive or cloud based site, unless you just emailed each person with the files…?

I do everything in PicMonkey and then convert it to PDFs to share on Google Drive. I’ll keep looking to see what I can figure out. Thanks for your suggestions!
