Gratitude Tree

November 25, 2013 by Trisha

gratitude tree

Thanksgiving can be a pretty busy day. Okay…it’s a really busy day. And after our Thanksgiving Turkey Trot in the morning we are often scrambling to get the house smelling like heaven and getting all those yummy foods on the table. But a couple of years ago before any of us started digging in we saw a tree sitting in the middle of the table. It wasn’t just any tree though – it was the gratitude tree.

My mom had lots of leaves cut out sitting on the table for each of us to take some time to write on. Soon the bare twigs were full of words of gratitude (some more serious than others). It was a nice way to take some of the things we are grateful for off our turkey ticket and write them in a place everyone could see. As we sat together around the table we each shared a couple things we wrote down, helping us all to remember the real reason for the holiday.

And it also helped us remember that it’s okay to be grateful for things like Aggie Blue Mint Ice Cream and basketball and good food. Because there is room for everyone’s gratitude at our table.

Here is all you will need:
– gather a large twig or branch from around your neighborhood or steal one off your backyard tree.
– a vase to fill with white beans (we used ones from our food storage!)
– some cut out leaves on colorful paper
– any ribbon or signs you’d like to add to the base of the tree

Pretty simple, yet a perfect way to bring gratitude to your Thanksgiving table. What will you be putting on your grateful tree this year?
