The Needing Spot

April 30, 2020 By Natalie

Sometimes we think we couldn’t possibly be good parents because we make mistakes. Or because so much of the time, it’s just so hard.

Sometimes I yell. I feel like I’m losing my mind-and my temper.

I have no idea what to do for Sam.

I never say the right thing.

Family night blew up.

I’m not cut out for this. My house is a wreck.

We fight. The kids fight. Quarantine has been one big ginormous fight.

I’m not sure where or how I fit as my kids become adults.

Clark won’t eat anything besides macaroni and Gushers.

I try every day. And I mess up. Every day.

From the mouths of moms, these are things I have heard-and quite recently at that.

You’ve heard them too.

Your girlfriends have said these things and you’ve jumped right in with something like this, “Did you see how you handled that name-calling episode? Top notch. Or how you calmed that scraped up toddler or angsty teenager with your touch and that big mama heart of yours? Well, I saw it. I see you. Take note, sister. You are remarkable.”

The Wedding Day – Sibling Roast

March 26, 2014

When I got engaged countless people told me that I thought I knew my then fiance, but really once we were married I’d learn so many new things I had no idea about. And let’s be honest, there have been a few things that have surprised me. Like how he likes to hang up…

Missionary Newsletters

March 21, 2014

Once there were five young boys that lived down the street and around the corner from each other.  They grew up together with Bionicles, basketballs, ripsticks, footballs, scout campouts, NBA video games, EFY, prom dates, and LOTS of food. They had different interests and different friends but they were still brothers.

Cheers to You, Mom

March 19, 2014

I hopped on to Facebook yesterday, the day after St. Patrick’s Day, and found something of a mini-mommy war. There was an outcry for moms to tone down the holidays-probably in response to all of the pictures of green food and leprechaun visits from the day before. The tone it down sentiment didn’t sit quite…

Halftime Games for Family & Friends

March 18, 2014

I loved basketball growing up. Well, I still do. I played on several rec teams and never missed one of my sibling’s games. So one day when I was about 11 I decided to go out and shoot some hoops before basketball practice that night. It had been a while, and I soon discovered I…

Puff Pastry Bites: 3 Ways

March 15, 2014

It’s that time of year when the NCAA goes dancing. (Or something like that.) I grew up watching basketball, and while I don’t know a single stat on a single soul who’s playing, I enjoy watching a good game. And any good game calls for some good food. So you’re spending more time cheering on…

Put Some Service In Your Spring Break

March 13, 2014

We’re all looking forward to spring break; it’s a great time for family-bonding!  Along with all of the fun activities, schedule some feel-good service.  It doesn’t have to take a lot of time, just a little pre-planning. There are lots of options if you are on the road or at home.  Here’s some ideas:

The Graduation Book

March 10, 2014

I used trusty ol’ Google to figure out the most common or most recommended gifts for a high school graduate. Among the list were things like a laptop, digital camera, a new bike, luggage, a magazine subscription, and some other kitchen or dorm room essentials. Those are all nice things, but what I’m going to…
