Donuts & Donations: Giving the Gift of Giving

December 14, 2015 by Shari

Donuts & Donations

Christmas Donuts & Donations is a neighborhood tradition that provides a little comfort and joy. Our friends, Ben and Marianne, began hosting this event as a way to show their girls that Christmas is not just about Santa. They organize a fun night of gathering and giving in place of handing out neighbor gifts. (So what they would spend on neighbor gifts, they spend on treats for the donation night. Love that idea!) They provide a warm fire (outdoor fire pit), plenty of Christmas donuts and hot chocolate, and invite their friends to come socialize and donate items for the local food bank.

A week before the event they leave simple invitations at each neighbor’s door specifying the date and time.  Each time they have collected more than 300 pounds of food. What a great way to connect and reach out in your community!
