Years ago my kids gave my husband a Super Bowl Champ t-shirt for Father’s Day. This shirt had nothing to do with football-it was all about ice cream. He grew up in an ice cream lovin’ home-when the chores were done on the farm he could always count on a bowl of Aggie ice cream. Yumm.
So, on Father’s Day we naturally celebrate with an ice cream contest for all the guys. (No objections from the men in this house.)
Here’s what you’ll need:
-Blindfolds for each ice-cream taster (guys)
-10 different kinds of small ice cream cups (buy whatever size is on sale – 4 ounce or if you’re lucky the pint size). Write a number on the bottom of each cup (1-10) for quick and easy identification.
-Lots of spoons
-2 cups of water for each guy – for cleansing his palate and/or drinking
-Paper and pencil for each girl recording the guys’ guesses
-Prize for the winning team (maybe a giftcard for MORE ice cream at Cold Stone)
Here’s the fun part:
-Don’t pull out the ice cream yet.
-Divide up in pairs with a taster (guy) and a server (girl). Last year we had an odd number so I served my hubby and teenage son (moms can multitask).
-Make sure they each have cups of water and spoons.
-Girls should number their paper from 1-10.
-Blindfold your men.
-Bring out the ice cream and start tasting.
-Girls cannot give any clue whatsoever.
-Guys get one spoonful, then they have to make a guess and move on.
-We don’t require some of the unusual ice cream names (like for Ben & Jerry’s). We just call them by basic names like Chocolate Carmel Brownie Ice Cream, etc.
-Just keep passing the cups around til everyone has tried all of them.
-Blindfolds come off and we share the answers (here come the groans- they think they know their ice cream SO well).
-Award the winning team (taster and server).
-THEN all the girls dive in and have a taste or two or three… Yumm.
